Le Dr. Simon A. J. Kimber (ICB) donnera une conférence intitulée : "Curiouser and curiouser: Insights into materials chemistry using advanced scattering techniques"
Résumé : In this seminar, I will introduce my I-Site funded group in the ICB laboratory, which focuses on x-ray and neutron scattering. Using examples from my time at the ESRF synchrotron and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, I will highlight the utility of these techniques for materials chemistry. In particular, I will show how developing in-situ methods gives insight into e.g. mechanochemical synthesis [1], heterogeneous catalysis [2] and nanoparticle solvation [3]. Moving forward, I will describe how our current research is providing tools for molecular speciation in the solvated state. In particular, I will describe the utility of pair distribution function analysis for tracking photo/electro chemical processes, and the nucleation/growth of pharmaceutically active oxo-clusters. Time allowing, I will highlight the ability of neutrons to shed light on processes occurring in exotic non-aqueous reaction systems, such as molten salts.
